Can I suggest, before you continue to read this please have your Bible handy.
I am praying that by the time you get through this teaching you will see prayer in a whole
different light. I’m believing that it will cause you to want to pray as never before and not
give up till you see victory that the Lord has intended for you to have!!
Our focus is going to be on Ephesians 6:18 but if you will please read ----
Ephesians 6:10-17 to refresh your memory.
Ephesians 6:18 (NKJ)
18praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end
with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints
There are all kinds of prayer, there is a prayer to fit each particular situation---
There is:
The prayer of petition
The prayer of intercession
The prayer of submission
The prayer of repentance
This is not complete but I think you get the idea..
We can see from the Scripture here in Ephesians that prayer is vital for us as believers to
be successful in spiritual warfare!
We haven’t even begun to fight until we learn to pray because Prayer is the way that we as
believer implement our spiritual weapons against the enemy!
It is through faith that we appropriate our armor and our spiritual weapons, BUT it is
through PRAYER that they are put into action.
Let’s look at verse 12 of Ephesians 6
12For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against
powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of
wickedness in the heavenly places. (NKJ)
As we see here there are 4 levels of spiritual enemies. Satan is not playing Games! He is
very well organized.
Paul tells us to take the Sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God, we do this through
PRAYER!
The Sword of the Spirit in the hands (mouth) of a praying man or woman, can break
satanic bondage, open the eyes of the blind, bring healing to sick bodies, open doors that
have been closed, close demonic doors that have been opened, shake nations, and set
the captives free! Glory to God.
It is so sad that for many Christians prayer is their last resort (when all else fails pray). For
others it is only a way of getting things from God.
But for those who have understood the armor of God and it’s purpose, Prayer becomes a
mighty weapon in itself.
To wrestle means to engage actively in one-on -one combat. Now how can we do that with
a spirit being? Through prayer with the Word of God! (The Sword)
MacArthur says:
Victory over Satan and his hosts in the great spiritual warfare in which we are engaged
demands unceasing and diligent commitment to prayer. That is exactly what the apostle
Paul says as he closes his appeal for Christians to put on the full armor of God.
The first part of verse 18 says: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit.
All of our praying regardless of it’s kind, is to be done in the power of the Spirit and by the
direction of the Spirit.
Verse 18b Being watchful
Through prayer we are kept in condition of spiritual alertness, our senses are kept sharp
and alive, we do not allow the enemy to gain advantage against us through spiritual
slumber.
Prayer is a Mighty weapon in the believer’s life! For we take our stand in the finish work of
the Cross!
