Its all in how you see things
In this Text we see Moses was to send out 12 men, tribal leaders of Israel to spy out the land of
Canaan.

Num 13:1 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying, 2 Send thou men, that they may search the land
of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel: of every tribe of their fathers shall ye send a
man, every one a ruler among them. 3 And Moses by the commandment of the LORD sent them from
the wilderness of Paran: all those men were heads of the children of Israel. 4 And these were their
names: of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Zaccur. 5 Of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the
son of Hori. 6 Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh. 7 Of the tribe of Issachar, Igal the
son of Joseph. 8 Of the tribe of Ephraim, Oshea the son of Nun. 9 Of the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the
son of Raphu. 10 Of the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel the son of Sodi. 11 Of the tribe of Joseph, namely,
of the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi the son of Susi. 12 Of the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the son of Gemalli. 13
Of the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael. 14 Of the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi the son of Vophsi.
15 Of the tribe of Gad, Geuel the son of Machi. 16 These are the names of the men which Moses
sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Oshea the son of Nun Joshua.17 And Moses sent them
to spy out the land of Canaan, and said unto them, Get you up this way southward, and go up into
the mountain: 18 And see the land, what it is; and the people that dwelleth therein, whether they be
strong or weak, few or many; 19 And what the land is that they dwell in whether it be good or bad;
and what cities they be that they dwell in, whether in tents, or in strongholds; 20 And what the land
is, whether it be fat or lean, whether there be wood therein, or not. And be ye of good courage, and
bring of the fruit of the land. Now the time was the time of the firstripe grapes. 21 So they went up,
and searched the land from the wilderness of Zin unto Rehob, as men come to Hamath. 22 And they
ascended by the south, and came unto Hebron; where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of
Anak, were. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.) 23 And they came unto the
brook of Eshcol, and cut down from thence a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bore it
between two upon a staff; and they brought of the pomegranates, and of the figs. 24 The place was
called the brook Eshcol, because of the cluster of grapes which the children of Israel cut down from
thence. 25 And they returned from searching of the land after forty days. 26 And they went and came
to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of
Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word unto them, and unto all the congregation, and showed
them the fruit of the land. 27 And they told him, and said, We came unto the land whither thou
sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it. 28 Nevertheless the
people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we
saw the children of Anak there. 29 The Amalekites dwell in the land of the south: and the Hittites,
and the Jebusites, and the Amorites, dwell in the mountains: and the Canaanites dwell by the sea,
and by the coast of Jordan. 30 And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at
once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it. 31 But the men that went up with him said,
We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we. 32 And they brought up
an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land,
through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the
people that we saw in it are men of a great stature. 33 And there we saw the giants, the sons of
Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in
their sight.

(Numbers 13:1-33...kjv)
How do you see the glass?

Is it half empty or half full?
*Point 1

Insight = Perspective, how you see things.

Ten men came back with a negative report, two came back with a positive report.

The ten men saw powerful giants and walled cities.

·         They overestimated the power of their enemy. (v.31)

·         They said they were not able to go against the people; for they are stronger than we.  (v.31)

·         They had a poor self image – insight that is incorrect stops you from being victorious.  (v.33)

Ignorance propagates disease, failure, poverty, constant loss, human decay and tragedy.
Heartache always occurs through ignorance.

Caleb and Joshua saw grapes, a land flowing with milk and honey.

·         Caleb and Joshua remembered God’s promise – He had given them the Promised Land!
·         Caleb stilled the people before Moses and said Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we
are well able to overcome it.  (v.30)

God can help you get new insight, you don’t deny the existence of your enemy

Joshua and Caleb saw the same things as the ten spies – FAITH is not blind – FAITH doesn’t deny
the reality of difficulty. It declares the POWER OF GOD in the face of the problem!!!! (Read that
again.)

*Point 2

We don’t deny the existence of our enemy. Jesus had enemies!

John 7:19 says:
(KJV) 19Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to
kill me?

Look at what God said about your enemies in Matthew 10:22: ( KJV ) 22And ye shall be hated of all
men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

Your enemy should not be feared -- Matthew 10:28 says:
(KJV) 28And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him
which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

The Holy Spirit will help you concerning your enemy ----  Matthew 10:19 says:

( KJV ) 19But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be
given you in that same hour what ye shall speak.

Let me give you something to think about:

Have you ever thought that an enemy could be causing movement in your life?

(1) Without a Pharaoh the Israelites would of adapted to Egypt .

(2) The promised land would have been a fantasy instead of a fact.

(3) Your enemy could be an announcement from God that your present season has come to a
conclusion. (When Goliath entered the picture David changed seasons from Shepherd boy to a
Warrior.)

(4) Your enemy releases your imagination. Creative juices begin to flow when your enemy shows
up –(When Pharaoh increased pain and burden on the Israelites they began to picture their future
– Canaan came into focus.) Pain in your present may be God’s way of developing the dream in you.

(5) Your enemy exposes your weakness.

(6) The only true difference between a nobody and a somebody is the enemy they decide to
conquer. (1 Samuel 18:7 - The women singing about David, Saul killed his 1000 and David killed his
10,000

(7) The size of your enemy may determine the size of your reward.

(8) Anything good always has an enemy, evil despises righteousness, fear despises faith,
weakness despises strength.

(9) You will only be remembered for the enemy you destroy or the one who destroys you.

(10)  Your enemy is as necessary as your friend--- your friend will comfort you, your enemy gives
you a future --- your enemy will get you promoted, your friend will pat you on the back.

(11) Your enemy will not seek to understand you but only to discredit you!

(12) An uncontested enemy will flourish, ignoring an enemy does not remove him, hoping your
enemy will leave will not remove him ---   Jesus was loving but not always nice – one of His
closest friends He called a devil.  When somebody tries to divert the mission they're not your
friend.

(13) The enemy you fail to destroy will eventually destroy you. (Saul and Samuel ) the Amalekites .

(14) You will never out grow your enemy – you'd better learn to fight – (Learn to use your
weapons skillfully. Until you die or until you're raptured, you're in a battle.)

(15) Resist the devil and he will flee from you – (James 4:7)   Mark them that have dissension
among you, don’t even eat with them- that sounds harsh, but an uncontested enemy WILL flourish!

The greatest weapon against your enemy is not your flesh, not your ability, not your
muscles, not your friends, not your money, not your influence. The greatest weapon
against your enemy is the Word of the Almighty God.
